Search Basics

To initiate a search, just type in a few descriptive words and hit the 'enter' key (or click on the Search button) for a list of relevant documents. Since this site only returns documents that contain all the words in your search, refining or narrowing your search is as simple as clicking Advanced Search and adding more words to the search terms you have already entered. Your new search will return a smaller subset of the documents found for your original "too-broad" search.

Choosing Keywords

For best results, it's important to choose your keywords wisely. Keep these tips in mind:
  • Try the obvious first. If you're looking for information on Decisions, enter "Decisions" rather than "Final Result".
  • Use words likely to appear in the documents with the information you want. "Extended Loss Earnings" gets better results than "Lost Earnings".
  • Make keywords as specific as possible. "Board Hearings" gets more specific results than just "Hearings.

    Phrase Searches

Search for complete phrases by enclosing them in quotation marks. Words enclosed in double quotes ("like this") will appear together in all results exactly as you have entered them. This can occur either on the main search or within the Advanced Search. Phrase searches are especially useful when searching for famous sayings or proper names.

    Wildcards

This system allows the use of “wildcard” characters in search statements. Wildcards are useful for retrieving variant spellings (eg. color, colour) and words with a common root (eg. psychology, psychological, psychologist, psychologists, etc.). This system permits only right truncation (eg. psycholog*).

    Boolean Operators

Boolean operators such as "AND" and "OR" can be used to construct complex search queries. By using these operators one can refine their search from either the Main Search screen or from within the Advanced Search screen.
